A reinstall of XP? Crap. Okay since I'm a PC noob.....are there certain folders I should copy onto my external drive in order to save me some time when installing XP all over?

i've scanned my PC and didnt find any malware etc. i still get runtime error and get disconnected. cant play as i am getting these crashes every 1 goddamn minute!

also when i get disconnected, there's a metallic sound when I try to type. the game freezes up and this sound appears from hitting the keys on my keyboard. WTF is going on??
